Québec Referendum "Non"

In the Québec referendum on sovereignty-association, Quebeckers voted 60% against giving the provincial government the right to negotiate sovereignty. The defeat put separatism on hold for 15 years, when a second referendum failed. It also set in motion a number of changes in federalism, promised by Pierre Trudeau during the referendum debate.
