Albert Edgar Hickman, businessman, politician (b at Grand Bank, Nfld 2 Aug 1875; d at St John's 9 Feb 1943). Newfoundland's seventeenth prime minister, he held that office for just 33 days from 10 May to 11 June 1924, the shortest administration in Newfoundland's history. He was a prominent St John's businessman when he entered politics in 1913 and became a minister in several Cabinets. He succeeded William WARREN as prime minister when Warren resigned but was soon defeated in a general election by Walter MONROE. Hickman continued as leader of the Opposition until he retired from politics in 1928.
