Lise Payette, née Ouimet broadcaster, politician, writer (b at Montréal 29 Aug 1931). She started her radio career in Rouyn-Noranda, Trois-Rivières, Québec City and Montréal. After 6 years in Paris, she became enormously popular in Québec, first with her program Place Aux Femmes, which was broadcast every morning on Radio-Canada during the 1960s, and then on television, with a late-evening talk show called Appelez-moi Lise. She was elected a péquiste MNA in 1976 and was made minister of consumer affairs, co-operatives and financial institutions, as well as the delegate responsible for women's affairs. After being the focal point of the "Yvettes" controversy (she had accused the leader of the Opposition, Claude RYAN, of being married to an Yvette) during the referendum period of 1980, she withdrew from political life the following year to devote her time to writing TV screenplays, including La bonne aventure and Les Dames de coeur, both of which were huge successes.
