Alfred Henry Fear, "Cap," football player (b at Old Sailbury, Eng 11 June 1901; d at St Catharines, Ont 12 Feb 1978). He played with the TORONTO ARGONAUTS (1919-26, 1 Grey Cup) and Hamilton Tigers (1927-32, 3 Grey Cups) as an outside wing in an era when, with no forward pass, this position was noted for defensive tackling. He was also an accomplished hockey player in the Toronto Mercantile League, was runner up for the North American welterweight boxing title and, as a member of the Toronto Argonaut Rowing Club, won victories at the Royal Canadian Henley Regatta. But it was on the football field where the square-jawed, stocky Fear became famous for his "bonecrunching" tackling.
