John Castell Hopkins, journalist, encyclopedist (b at Dyersville, Iowa 1 Apr 1864; d at Toronto 5 Nov 1923). He became assistant editor of the Toronto Mail and Empire in 1890 and wrote a number of pamphlets, biographies and histories, including the deferential Life and Work of the Right Hon.
Ken Mitchell, playwright, novelist, short story writer, poet, actor, teacher, scriptwriter (b at Moose Jaw, Sask 13 Dec 1940). Mitchell grew up on a farm near Moose Jaw, and attended the University of Saskatchewan, Regina; while a student, he began to write stories and radio plays for the CBC.
George Victor Ferguson, newspaper editor (b at Cupar, Scot 20 Apr 1897; d at Montréal 26 Jan 1977). One of John W. DAFOE's newspaper "pupils" and a distinguished journalist in his own right, Ferguson was educated at the University of Alberta and Oxford, where he was a Rhodes scholar.
