Richard Compton

Richard Compton is an assistant professor in the Linguistics Department at the Université du Québec à Montréal (UQAM) specializing in the syntax and morphology of Inuktitut. His research focuses on the polysynthetic properties of Inuktitut, including such topics as lexical categories, modification, word formation, and incorporation, as well as other areas such as ergativity and agreement. He has conducted fieldwork in Iqaluit and Baker Lake. His interests also extend to language documentation and revitalization and he is currently collaborating with a speaker on a new edition of a dictionary for a Western Inuit dialect.
