Project Ploughshares

Project Ploughsharesis an organization founded in 1976 to promote disarmament and demilitarization, the peaceful resolution of political conflict, and the pursuit of security based on equity, justice and a sustainable environment. Public understanding of and support for these goals are encouraged through research, education and the development of alternative policy. Among the policies supported are the abolition of nuclear weapons and control of the weapons trade.

Project Ploughshares sponsors roundtables and conferences to present its perspective to opinion leaders and policy makers and works in conflict regions to encourage demilitarization. The organization publishes the Ploughshares Monitor (quarterly) and the Armed Conflicts Report (annual). It participates in the Youth International Internship Program, funded by the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade.

Project Ploughshares is part of the Institute of Peace and Conflict Studies at Conrad Grebel College (affiliated with the University of Waterloo) in Waterloo, Ontario. It is sponsored by the Canadian Council of Churches and supported by national churches and civic agencies, community groups and more than 10 000 individuals.
