Turner, Herbert G.

Herbert G. Turner. Teacher, b Oxford, England, 26 Feb 1883, d Edmonton 4 Jul 1963. After voice and trumpet studies in England and a brief period of military service, Turner moved to Edmonton in 1907. There he and his wife opened a voice studio in 1913. He was also a founder of AF of M local 390 and secretary-treasurer 1936-62 of the Alberta Music Festival Association. Turner was one of the founding members of the Light Opera of Edmonton (1950-67), which produced over 25 shows. After Turner's death, his wife, Eileen (McEcheran) Turner, continued to manage Light Opera of Edmonton for another four years. His pupils included Robert Goulet, Bernard Turgeon, and Lois McDonall.

Herbert Turner was inducted to the Edmonton Hall of Fame (Music) in 2002.
