Gemini AwardsIn 1986, the original ACTRA Awards were absorbed into the Academy of Canadian Cinema, the home of the Genie Awards, which then changed its named to the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television. The Gemini Awards celebrate the achievements of television members of the Academy, and awards are currently given out in 87 categories. The Gemini Awards also include several special awards given out for various reasons, such as lifetime achievement. Québec holds its own counterpart of the Geminis, Les Prix Gémeaux.

Called the Multiculturalism Award (1988-90) and now the Canada Award. This award is presented to the television program that best reflects Canada's multicultural landscape.
