Voice of Women, since 1960 a voluntary nonpartisan organization with members in every province of Canada, has opposed violence and war and promoted DISARMAMENT and peace. To this end VOW has organized extensive educational campaigns, lobbied all levels of government, held meetings and conferences including 2 international women's peace conferences, and sent representatives to other countries to consider the mutual concerns of women and to promote action. Regular meetings take place in many centres, and VOW initiates and supports campaigns with other groups. VOW is a member group of the NATIONAL ACTION COMMITTEE ON THE STATUS OF WOMEN and PROJECT PLOUGHSHARES, and has a representative on the federal government's Consultative Group on Disarmament and Arms Control.
