Toquaht ("people of the narrow beach") Nation, is a member of the Nuu-Chah-Nulth (or Nootka) FIRST NATIONS of 143 registered people living at Barkley Sound, near the town of Ucluelet, on the west coast of Vancouver Island, BC. Formerly a prominent Nation with extensive territories, the Toquaht population was severely reduced by disease and prolonged warfare in the early historic period. Their territory in the mid-19th century consisted of the western shore of Barkley Sound, Toquart Bay, Mayne Bay and Pipestem Inlet.

Today there are six Toquaht reserves however the only inhabited reserve is Macoah, located by Macoah Passage. The other five sites are Deekyakus, Chenatha, Dookqua, Dookqua, and Stuart Bay, all located within Barkley Sound.

After 15 years of treaty negotiations the Maa-nulth Treaty (Maa-nulth in the Nuu-chah-nulth language means means "villages along the coast") came into effect on on April 1, 2011. Five First Nations including the the Toquaht Nation accepted the final Maa-nulth Treaty agreement which became the second treaty to take effect under the British Columbia Treaty Commission process.
