Suzanne Paradis

Paradis, Suzanne
Suzanne Paradis, poet, novelist, essayist and literary critic (b at Québec City 27 Oct 1936). Though she had already published several poems and stories, it was only in 1962 that she decided to devote herself to writing. She remained largely unknown to the general Québec public, despite winning several prestigious literary awards (La Malbête, 2nd prize, Concours littéraire du Québec, 1963; Pour les Enfants des morts: Poèmes, Prix France-Québec, 1965; L'Oeuvre de Pierre: Poèmes, Prix Du Maurier, 1970). Her novel Miss Charlie (1979) published by Éditions Leméac finally brought her wide public attention and critical acclaim. With a scrupulous concern for stylistic detail and story structure, she chose to rewrite her earlier works. Paradis is also a critic and has contributed to several cultural periodicals.
