Sears Canada Inc, headquartered in Toronto, is a Canadian retailer incorporated in 1952. In 1953 operating under the name Simpsons-Sears Ltd, it acquired the mail order agency and order office of SIMPSONS, LIMITED and its subsidiaries and today operates over 1400 catalogue sales units, 3 customer merchandise service centres and 110 retail stores. In 1994, Sears had sales of $4.0 billion and some 40 000 full- and part-time employees. Sears, Roebuck and Co of Chicago is the principal shareholder with a 61% interest in the company.
