Passamaquoddy Bay is a small inlet near the mouth of the Bay of FUNDY
. Its mouth is restricted by a chain of islands, including DEER
, and strong tides (range 8.3 m) prevail in the region. Rich fisheries for herring and lobster occur here, and the St Andrews Marine Biological Station on its shores is an important research centre. Because of the tides and topography, several schemes for TIDAL ENERGY
development have been proposed in the past.
