Wright, L.R. (Laurali Rose)
L.R. (Laurali Rose) Wright, novelist (b at Saskatoon, Sask 5 Jun 1939). The author of 11 novels, she was educated at Carleton University, the University of Calgary, UBC and Simon Fraser University. After working a number of years as a journalist for the Calgary Herald, she turned to writing full time in 1977. She is best known for her police procedural novels set in the community of Sechelt on British Columbia's Sunshine Coast, which feature Staff Sergeant Karl Alberg of the RCMP. The first of this series, The Suspect (1985), won the Edgar Allan Poe Award, and has been followed by 8 others, including A Chill Rain in January (1990), Prized Possessions (1993), Mother Love (1995) and her most recent work, Acts of Murder (1998). She has also written a psychological novel, The Favorite (1982), about a girl's attempt to come to terms with her father's death, and Among Friends (1984), a work that explores the lives of 3 single women in Calgary.
