James Armstrong Richardson, Jr, grain merchant, politician (b at Winnipeg 28 Mar 1922), son of James A.
RICHARDSON, SR. After studying at Queen's and serving in the RCAF as a Liberator Bomber pilot patrolling the N Atlantic, Richardson joined the family firm of James Richardson and Sons Ltd in 1945 and was chairman and executive officer 1966-68. He was elected Liberal MP for Winnipeg S in June 1968 and appointed minister without portfolio in July. Minister of supply and services 1969-72, he was re-elected in the 1972 general election and was appointed minister of national defence. He resigned from Cabinet in 1976, over the government's language policy, and sat as an Independent 1978-79, when he returned to the family firm and became a director.
