The Vancouver Woodwind Quintet (after 1976 the Winds of Vancouver). An offshoot of the former Vancouver Symphony Chamber Players. Members were Harriet Crossland (flute), Ronald de Kant (clarinet), Warren Stannard (oboe), Roland Small (bassoon), and Robert Creech (horn), succeeded in 1976 by Martin Hackleman. Founded in 1968, it was sponsored until 1970 by the JMC of British Columbia and presented programs jointly with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, the Vancouver School Board, and the Musicians' Association's Music Performance Trust Fund. The quintet gave some 40 concerts annually, most often in Vancouver schools but also in public, on provincial tours, and over CBC radio. Drawing on a wide repertoire, including many Canadian works, the quintet recorded music by Carl Nielsen, Ingolf Dahl, and Robert Turner (1970; CBC SM 139). In 1976 it ceased to tour and by the late 1970s was inactive.
