Maloney's positions as teacher of music history, clarinet, and as ensemble coach have included those at Lakehead University 1975-8, Grande Prairie College, Alta 1978-80 and Stetson U, DeLand, Fla 1982-8. In 1988 he was appointed chief of the music division of the National Library of Canada. He has served also on the boards of various musical organizations and has presented talks at conferences. He has written for EMC.
