Guindon, Jean-Pierre
Jean-Pierre Guindon. Choir conductor, teacher, b Montreal 24 Apr 1939. After studying voice and choral and orchestral conducting at the CMM and at the École normale de musique, he led a dual career devoted to teaching at the Lionel-Groulx Cegep and choral conducting. He founded and directed various vocal ensembles such as the Chanteurs de Ste-Thérèse (1961), with which he premiered Clermont Pépin's Te Deum in 1991, the Quatuor vocal Ville-Marie (1983), the Ensemble vocal Polymnie de Longueuil and the Vaudreuil-Soulanges choir (1986). He has prepared and conducted various performances for the MSO and for CBC. During Pope Jean Paul II's visit to Montreal in 1984, Guindon was responsible for the preparation and conducting of a choir of 3000 voices. In 1990 he made a tour in France as head of the Québec-France choir, an ensemble composed of members from various choirs. He has also participated in juries, notably at UQAM, at CBC and at the Rencontres internationales de chant choral in Tours, France. He has participated in various presentations of the Choralies internationales. Guindon conducted the Chanteurs de Ste-Thérèse in the 1985 recording of Raymond Daveluy's Messe en mi mineur with Aline Daveluy at the organ (LP not commercially available, CST 1985-1), and for the LP Noël nouvelet with the organist Rachel Laurin (1987, Arioso CST-1987-2). The choir also participated in the premiere of Jacques Hétu's Missa pro trecentesimo anno with the Orchestre métropolitain under Otto-Werner Mueller, at a concert recorded by the CBC and issued on CD (4-ACM 31).
