Delorme, Isabelle
Isabelle Delorme. Teacher, pianist, composer, b Montreal 4 Nov 1900, d there 20 Feb 1991 A pupil of Sister Madeleine-Marie at the École supérieure de musique d'Outremont (now École Vincent-d'Indy), she later studied piano with Arthur Letondal and violin with Albert Chamberland and Agostino Salvetti. She received her teaching certificate ca 1918 from the AMQ. A composition pupil 1929-39 of Claude Champagne, she began teaching theory and solfège in 1943 at the CMM, where she stayed for 26 years, though she also taught at other institutions, including the Ursuline Convent in Trois-Rivières. In the summers of 1955 and 1956 she continued her theory studies with Nadia Boulanger at the American Cons in Fontainebleau. In 1967 her treatise on harmony (unpublished) gained Boulanger's approval. Her pupils include Andrée Desautels, Jacques Hétu, Roger Matton, François Morel, and André Prévost. Her compositions, written 1940-60 in a lyrical and traditional style using classical harmonies, have been played but not published. Her works for string orchestra include Fantaisie, Choral et Fugue, Prélude et Fugue, Suite, Berceuse dans le style ancien (also for piano), and Andante, which was premiered in 1941 and repeated several times by the CBC Montreal orchestra.
