Dupuis, Guillaume
Guillaume (Ladislas) Dupuis. Teacher, choirmaster, b Montreal 3 May 1887, d there 25 Apr 1954. He began his musical training under Joseph Piché (piano and harmony) and later studied Gregorian chant with Guillaume Couture and Henri Garrouteigt, harmony with Romain Pelletier, and choral conducting with Charles-Hugues Lefebvre. He was choirmaster 1918-49 at Notre-Dame Church, and taught voice and solfège in several institutions. He was director of solfège classes for the province of Quebec and specialized in the development and instruction of children's choirs. He was director of the Octave-Pelletier Quartet, which consisted of the tenors Arthur Lapierre and J.-H. Thibaudeau, the baritone Rodrigue Gauthier, and the bass J.-M. Magnan. Dupuis's son Charles-O. Dupuis (b Montreal 7 Mar 1928) served 1969-78 as director of the choir Petits Chanteurs du Mont-Royal.
