Charles Lavallée. Conductor, cornetist, music dealer, b Verchères, Lower Canada (Quebec) 13 Jul 1850, d Montreal 28 Nov 1924. He worked with his father, Augustin
, as a violin maker and importer of instruments and ran the business on his own after the latter's death. As a cornetist he travelled widely and he was conductor of the Bande de la Cité
and the Victoria Rifles Band. He was one of the founders of the Musicians' Protective Union of Montreal (now the Quebec Musicians' Guild, local 406 of the AF of M) and its president 1905-14. His brother Joseph (d 1913) was a trombonist in New York concert bands and orchestras. His sister Cordélia (pianist, singer, b Verchères, ca 1847, d Montreal Oct 1920) was the wife of the violinist Jean-A. Duquette
. Their cousin Marie-Louise Lavallée was the mother of the pianist Jean Dansereau
