Godfrey, Dave
Dave Godfrey, writer, publisher, academic (b at Winnipeg 9 Aug 1938). Godfrey's books include The New Ancestors (Governor General's Award 1970), a powerful and complex novel set in Africa, where the author served with CUSO, and several collections of highly stylized short stories. An activist in Canadian cultural politics beginning in the late 1960s, he was cofounder of both the HOUSE OF ANANSI and New Press, and at present runs Press Porcépic with his wife, writer Ellen Godfrey. He is also coowner of Softwords, part of Press Porcépic, which produces educational software. He studied at the University of Toronto, Iowa and Stanford, and currently teaches creative writing and publishing at the University of Victoria.
